@aaron This is something I've been thinking about and discussing with other colorists. I feel like there should just be less "bleaching" by default because there's already a way to separately control highlight saturation with the Density vs Luma curve. Ideally the contrast curve should only affect perceptual contrast and brightness. So my counter suggestion would be to update the color model to better isolate perceptual luminance and leave saturation (almost) alone, since there's already a way to separately control that. I would much prefer that over adding another slider control to the interface.
@aaron - I just published the v1.1 update. Among many small changes, I also updated how the contrast curve affects the chrominance in the highlights. You will now see much more attenuated bleaching that kicks in later and is much more subtle overall. A full update report for the internal changes will be published on Monday. Let me know if this new default works better for you in conjunction with the density vs luma curve in the density panel above. Thank you!
@monokee Very cool! Thanks so much. I should have mentioned - I do like the bleach
effect most of the time, but there are a handful of occasions where I’d
like more color in the highlights. The time when I have the most trouble
with the bleaching is when I made a LUT for just contrast. The bleaching
was very excessive. Aside from this, I am okay with it.
I will work with it next week and let you know how it goes!
