Hi @scott1290 - there’s ALWAYS room for improvement! A few thoughts:
I have some comparisons of film scans and denoised + re-grained versions somewhere that I’ll need to dig up.
I’d still love to see some examples of what you would LIKE the grain to look like because I’m sure there’s value in providing more creative options to achieve different aesthetics. Ideally attach some images with and without your ideal looking grain! Thanks!
Hi, Monokee. Thank you for your reply. I haven't done much research on the characteristics of film, and my suggestions are more of a personal preference (please forgive me). I later noticed that the Chroma slider in Color.io can adjust the color of the Grain. I conducted a comparison test of Grain effects in Dehancer on two sets of photos: a slight negative Grain effect and a saturated negative Grain effect. I also uploaded a photo with a saturated grain generated in Color.io. Personally, I still feel that Dehancer's highlights/shadows/heavy film grain effects look more "analog" (maybe I'm wrong). Just for reference. BTW, I'm very curious if you have any plans to create presets for the charming Cinestill 800T film? I found that even in Dehancer, it's hard to simulate the 800T effect. Maybe Color.io's LUTs are more feasible? I also really like the Halation algorithm you created, which makes me very excited about the 800T simulation!
